What Powell Electronic Inc. collects, why, and what we will never do with it.

2. What we collect
If you contact us
The name, email address and message you submit through the contact form, so we can reply. Nothing more.
If you use Pluvio Grow
- Your email address — it is the account identifier and how sign-in links are delivered.
- Your mobile number — only if you choose to add one for SMS alerts.
- Device data — device identifier, firmware version, connection state, watering events, sensor readings, configuration and the names you give your plants and devices.
- Basic technical data — IP address and request logs, kept for security and troubleshooting.
We do not collect payment card details ourselves; if and when payments are processed, they are handled by a payment provider and card numbers never reach our systems.
3. Why we collect it
- To operate the service, show you your devices, and let you control them.
- To send account and device notifications you have asked for.
- To keep watering and sensor history so you can see change over time. This history is retained long-term because its value is that it is long-term.
- To diagnose faults and improve the product.
- To meet legal and tax obligations.
4. Mobile information and SMS consent
We do not sell, rent or share mobile information or SMS consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.
Mobile numbers collected for SMS alerts are used only to deliver those alerts. They are shared with our messaging provider solely to transmit the message, and with nobody else. No mobile information is shared with third parties for marketing under any circumstances.
You can withdraw consent at any time by replying STOP to any message or by removing your number in the Pluvio Grow portal. Full messaging terms are in our Terms of Service.
5. Who we share data with
We use a small number of service providers to run the service. They process data on our instructions and only for that purpose:
- Twilio — email and SMS delivery.
- DigitalOcean — server hosting and encrypted backup storage.
- EMQX Cloud — the secure message broker devices connect to.
- Cloudflare — DNS and website delivery.
We otherwise disclose personal information only where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim. We do not sell personal information.
Some of these providers operate outside Canada, so data may be stored or processed in other countries, including the United States, and may be subject to the laws there.
6. Retention
- Account details — for as long as the account exists.
- Device state — recent operational state expires automatically after 30 days.
- Watering and sensor history — retained long-term, because the point of the record is comparison over seasons and years.
- Backups — encrypted, and aged out on a fixed schedule.
Ask us to delete your account and we will remove your personal information, retaining only what we must for legal or accounting reasons.
7. Security
Connections between devices, the service and your browser are encrypted in transit. Each device authenticates with its own credentials and can only reach its own data. Backups are encrypted with a public key, so the server that creates them cannot read them back. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously and design for it.
8. Your choices and rights
You may ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop sending you messages. Email hello@powellelectronic.ca and we will respond within a reasonable period. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to complain to a privacy regulator — in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
9. Cookies
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. The Pluvio Grow portal uses a single session cookie to keep you signed in.
10. Children
Our products and services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. The “last updated” date above changes when we do, and material changes will be notified to account holders by email.
